Simple terms for a simple app.

1. Agreement

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Veil ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the Veil mobile application ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

These Terms govern your use of the App and the optional Veil Plus subscription. They do not replace or modify any agreement you have with Apple or Google for the use of their respective app stores or payment services.

2. The App

Veil is a period and cycle tracking application. It stores all health data locally on your device. We do not operate servers that receive, process, or store your health data. For full details on what data stays on your device and what limited information is transmitted, see our Privacy Policy.

3. Free tier

The free tier of Veil provides full cycle tracking, predictions, calendar, education content, and manual data export. The free tier is genuinely free - it does not expire, it is not a trial, and it is not limited in time. We will not remove features from the free tier to pressure you into upgrading.

4. Veil Plus subscription

Veil Plus is an optional paid subscription that unlocks additional features including pattern analysis, cycle history deep-dive, long-term trend charts, health report PDF export, full-text search, encrypted auto-backup, and additional notification categories.

4.1 Pricing

Veil Plus is available as a monthly or annual auto-renewable subscription. Current prices are displayed in the App before purchase in your local currency. Prices may vary by region based on App Store and Google Play pricing tiers.

4.2 Auto-renewal

Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annually) unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID or Google account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period at the same price.

4.3 How to cancel

You can cancel your subscription at any time through your device's subscription management:

• iOS: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > Veil Plus > Cancel Subscription
• Android: Google Play Store > Profile icon > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > Veil Plus > Cancel

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep access to Veil Plus features until then.

4.4 Refunds

Refunds are handled by Apple or Google as the merchant of record. We do not process payments directly. To request a refund, contact Apple or Google Play directly.

5. Your data and privacy

Your health data is stored exclusively on your device. We cannot access, read, recover, or delete it remotely. If you lose your device without a backup, your data is gone. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

You can export your data at any time via Settings > Import/Export. Exported files belong to you and can be imported into a new Veil installation or used however you see fit.

6. Not medical advice

Veil is a self-tracking aid, not a medical device, and does not provide medical advice. Cycle predictions, fertile window estimates, ovulation forecasts, pattern insights, and any other information presented in the App are based on statistical algorithms applied to the data you personally enter. They are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

This includes, without limitation:

• PMDD severity score - a self-tracking indicator weighted per DSM-5 criteria, not a clinical diagnosis of premenstrual dysphoric disorder.
• Amenorrhea detection and health alerts - observational flags based on the gap since your last logged period, not a diagnosis of amenorrhea or any underlying condition.
• Symptothermal ovulation detection - retrospective confirmation based on basal body temperature shifts and cervical mucus patterns, not a real-time fertility indicator.
• Oral-contraceptive mode - tracks your self-reported pill adherence and adjusts predictions accordingly; it does not verify that contraception is effective and should not be relied upon for contraceptive decisions.

Do not rely on Veil for contraception, fertility planning, or the diagnosis of any medical condition. All predictions are computed entirely from your own locally stored data. Veil does not use population-level models or other users' data. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider for medical decisions.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App (except to the extent permitted by applicable law)
• Use the App to develop a competing product
• Distribute modified versions of the App
• Circumvent subscription checks or feature gates

8. Intellectual property

The App, its design, code, artwork, and brand are the property of Veil. Your data is yours. We claim no ownership or license over the health data you create in the App.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Veil shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, use, or profit, arising out of or related to your use of the App, whether based on warranty, contract, tort, or any other legal theory.

Because Veil stores data locally on your device and has no ability to access or recover it, we cannot be held liable for data loss resulting from device failure, accidental deletion, or failure to maintain backups.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where practical, notify you through the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Third-party platforms

The App is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Your use of those platforms is governed by their respective terms:

• Apple: Apple's Standard EULA applies to the extent you obtained the App through the App Store. Apple is not a party to these Terms and has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support for the App.
• Google: Google Play's Terms of Service apply to the extent you obtained the App through Google Play.

Apple and Google are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

13. AI Assistant (Veil Plus)

Veil Plus includes an optional on-device AI Health Companion. The following terms apply specifically to this feature. On-device AI is still an emerging technology; not every phone has the RAM or CPU headroom to run it smoothly, and even supported devices may experience slowness or crashes. The feature works best on recent flagship phones (iPhone 15 Pro or newer, or Android phones with 8 GB of RAM or more).

13.1 Medical disclaimer

The AI Assistant is an informational tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment recommendations. Responses are generated by a statistical language model (one of Google's open Gemma 3 or Gemma 4 models) running locally on your device and are grounded in the cycle and symptom data you have personally logged. They are not reviewed by clinicians, not validated against population health data, and may contain inaccuracies or omissions.

Do not use the AI Assistant to make contraceptive, fertility, or medical decisions. Do not rely on it in an emergency. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call your local emergency services immediately. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider for diagnosis and treatment of any medical condition.

13.2 Acceptable use

In addition to the general acceptable-use terms in section 7, you agree not to use the AI Assistant to:

• Generate content that violates Google's Gemma Prohibited Use Policy, including content that is harmful, deceptive, or illegal.
• Attempt to circumvent the topic guardrail or manipulate the system prompt to produce off-topic or harmful outputs.
• Use the feature for any purpose that violates applicable law or these Terms.

Veil reserves the right to update the topic guardrail or model configuration at any time to maintain the safety and integrity of the feature.

13.3 No warranty on AI output

AI responses are generated statistically by a large language model and may contain factual errors, outdated information, or responses that are incomplete or misleading. We make no warranty, express or implied, as to the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for purpose of any AI-generated response. Use of the AI Assistant is at your own risk.

13.4 Model download and storage

Using the AI Assistant requires downloading a model file once (about 1 GB to 5 GB of storage depending on your phone's capability). This download occurs over your internet connection and will consume data. Veil is not responsible for any data charges, storage limitations, or device performance issues that may result from downloading or running the model. You can delete the model at any time from the AI Assistant settings screen.

13.5 Model licensing - Gemma

The AI Assistant uses one of Google's open Gemma language models (currently Gemma 3 or Gemma 4), released by Google DeepMind. Gemma is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0. Your use of the AI Assistant is subject to that license as well as Google's Gemma Terms of Use and Gemma Prohibited Use Policy.

13.6 Chat data and privacy

Chat history is off by default. If you opt in, conversations are saved locally on your phone, encrypted, and excluded from device backups; they are deleted when you uninstall the app. Prompts and responses are never transmitted to Veil, Google, or any third-party server. 13.7 Disabling or removing the AI Assistant

You can turn the AI Assistant off entirely at any time from Settings → AI Assistant; when off, no model loads and the tab is hidden. You can also delete the downloaded model and any saved chats from the AI Assistant settings screen. If your Veil Plus subscription lapses, access to the feature is paused, but your downloaded model and local chat files are not deleted - you own your local storage.
